Hi, Isaac here. I publish Man Science and want to keep it free for everyone. Support our work by leaving a tip below.
Fasting is one of those things I recommend that most adults (barring medical issues) should try. And no, it’s not a diet. It’s an eating plan with massive benefits for your health and longevity.
My deep dive newsletter this Friday has all the details on the science-proven benefits of fasting, so don’t miss it.
To prepare you for it, I want you to try fasting starting tomorrow morning.
That’s right. Not next week, not when you start eating a better diet and certainly not when you feel ready (you’ll be waiting a long time 🙂).
I want to show you just how easy it is to start a fasting lifestyle. I also want you to have already started feeling some of the benefits of fasting by Friday (look out for small changes like feeling less foggy, a bit more energy and fewer food cravings).
You may not realize this but you already fast daily. A fast is simply an extended period without food. Most of us fast for at least 8-12 hours daily, starting from the end of dinner to when we take breakfast.
To start fasting with minimal effort, eat your breakfast a little later each day. This gradually extends your nightly fasting period with barely any difficulty.
If you eat your breakfast at 8am, push it to 8.30am. Do this for 2-3 days, then push it again to 9am. Try to delay your breakfast by at least 1 hour each week. By the end of 1 month, you’ll be fasting for at least 12 hours daily — that’s huge progress.
Now, I know the logistics can be tricky for folks who go to the office. But try to find a workaround. Maybe eat a late breakfast at the office or during your mid-morning break.
If delaying breakfast won’t work for you, try eating your dinner earlier. For example from 8pm to 7.30pm, then 7pm and so on. You get the same benefits.
If changing your eating time (breakfast or dinner) by half an hour every 2-3 days feels like too much, you can try even smaller time changes like 15 minutes. This is a long term plan, so there’s no rush.
If you want a longer guide on how to start fasting, I made a video sometime back. I’m still new at this video stuff, so please forgive its unpolished feel.
See you Friday. Cheers.
